Minimalistic Skincare- Inexpensive and Effective!

Welcome Back Beatniks!

Kelly here. Today I wanted to talk about a topic very near and dear to my heart… or to my face… skincare!!

Just like the rest of you, I too dread taking off my makeup and washing my face. But unfortunately, if I want my skin to look like a baby’s bottom, it is a necessary part of every morning/night routine. I used to have a very ‘whatever’ attitude when it came to skincare. Then I started constantly changing environments– from school in Pennsylvania with occasional weekend trips to Virginia, to home in New Jersey, to California for the summer, and then to New Jersey and to Pennsylvania again; I mean damn– if I were my skin, I’d be confused too!

I’ve found that the most important thing is to find the products that work the best for your skin type. Identify whether you have oily, dry or combination skin, and take some time to research which products will best suit your needs. Today I am here to show you some of the products that I’ve been loving to incorporate in my daily routine. My skincare routine is definitely nothing fancy! I’ve found that with my combination skin, lazy tendencies, and tight budget, the less products the better!

Vaseline Cocoa Butter Body Lotion

I’m starting off with a moisturizer because if there is one thing you need to do daily, it’s moisturize (yes even you with the oily skin). If you deprive your skin of moisture, it’s only going to create more oil; going without moisturizing is a lose-lose situation. I keep it as simple and inexpensive as it gets, but it gets the job done and it does it well. A giant bottle of this is under $6, and will last you a few months.

Cleanser

A skin cleanser should be used every morning and night. It will cleanse your face (duhh), providing a nice and smooth canvas for your makeup, and at the end of the day it will wash away your 12+ hour old makeup so your skin has time to recover. I find clean and clear a very reliable and inexpensive brand when it comes to cleansers (and skin products in general).

St. Ives Apricot Exfoliator

Exfoliating is definitely my favorite part of my skincare routine, and it should be done 2-3 times a week. I get to shed away the used and tired skin to reveal a fresh faced Kelly who’s ready to take on the day! St. Ives uses all natural products and is very inexpensive. I love the rough yet gentle consistency of this exfoliator. I highly recommend this product; you won’t regret the purchase.

Blackhead Remover by ARINO

I’m not one for fancy machines and whatnot when it comes to skincare; I usually disregard them as too much effort. However, blackheads are just impossible to get rid of! Sorry for the slightly grotesque image, but this mini machine literally sucks the dirt out of your skin. It is the only thing I have seen have a real affect on my blackheads. This product is very inexpensive for the results it yields. Buy it here.

Masks

While face masks have always been around, they’ve just recently exploded in popularity. Whether people are gaining more interest for skincare, or just wanting to pamper themselves, I am loving the attention face masks are getting. There are different benefits that come with each type of face mask. Recently, I’ve been loving peel off cloth masks because they’re fast and easy. Whole foods also has a great assortment of more mud face masks. I’m a big fan of the earthscience purifying facial masque in mint tingle.

Like I said, my skincare routine is very minimal. I definitely want to start incorporating more masks, serums and toners, and I will be sure to share my findings once I do!

Until Monday,
Peace out~Kell
